Frequently Asked Questions
1.
WHY SUGAR OR WAX IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Sugaring and Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the roots, not just from the skin’s surface. Results are smoother and last longer than shaving. With regular maintenance, results can lead to permanency.
2.
WHAT AREAS OF THE BODY CAN BE SUGARED OR WAXED?
Sugaring and waxing can be done on almost any part of the body. The most popular areas for women are eyebrows, underarms, bikini/Brazilian, and legs; for men, chest and back are the most popular. However, male grooming is becoming more prominent, and has increased the popularity of eyebrow waxing and ‘Man-zilians’. The exception for men is facial and scalp hair.
3.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY HAIR BE AFTER SHAVING BEFORE I COME IN FOR A SUGAR OR WAX SERVICE?

Your hair should be 1/4 inch long (about 2 weeks after shaving) for waxing and 1/8 of an inch long (about 1 week after shaving) for sugaring.
4.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
After a client’s first service, the results can last 3-4 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. With regular maintenance, results can last up to 6 weeks.
5.
CAN I GO TANNING BEFORE OR AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?
It’s best not to be in the sun or use a tanning bed for 24-48 hours before AND after your service. However, airbrush tanning is fine after waxing and sugaring.
6.
WILL THE HAIR GROW BACK THICKER?
No. Regular and continued waxing or sugaring usually results in sparser and finer hair re-growth.
7.
CAN SOMEONE COME IN THE TREATMENT ROOM WITH ME?
To provide optimal services, only the client and esthetician are allowed in the treatment room during an appointment. Except for clients under the age of 15, where we invite a parent or guardian to be on hand.
8.
ARE THERE ANY HEALTH PRECAUTIONS TO KEEP IN MIND?
Avoid any waxing/sugaring while on Accutane and for a minimum of 6-12 months after coming off the medication or consult your dermatologist about when to proceed.
Some physicians do not recommend waxing/sugaring for people suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation, as they are more susceptible to infection.
Facial waxing is not recommended for clients currently using Retin A, Renova, Differin or other types of skin thinning acne medications. Please read the label carefully and consult your dermatologist if you are taking any medication or using any topical cream that contains these medications or stop for 7 days prior to your appointment.
Individuals do react differently to these medications and sometimes waxing or sugaring can be done if proper patch testing is completed.
9.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BIKINI, INBETWINI, AND BRAZILIAN SERVICES?
A Bikini is the most conservative of the 3 services. It refers to hair removal from the visible bikini line, approximately 2-3 finger widths on either side of the crease between your bikini region and leg. We also remove 1-2 finger widths of hair from the top of your bikini line.
An Inbetwini is a “hybrid” between the bikini and Brazilian. More hair, approximately 3-4 finger widths, is taken from the bikini line. Hair is also removed from the inner buttocks.
A Brazilian refers to hair removal from the entire pubic region, from front to back. Most women prefer to take it all off, but you have the option to leave a patch of hair at the top of the pubic area.
10.
CAN I GET A BRAZILIAN IF I’M ON MY PERIOD?
Yes of course; just know that you will be more sensitive, and you must wear a clean tampon. Taking an ibuprofen 20 minutes before your appointment can help minimize pain.
11.
HOW LONG DOES THE BRAZILIAN SERVICE TAKE?
Your appointment will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Your first time will take the longest, but monthly upkeep is much faster.
